Digital Detachment

Don’t be ruled by distraction, better manage your tech settings instead.
Digital Detachment
01

Why it matters?

If you are one of the several hundred million people who saw The Social Dilemma, then you understand the depths to which our technology, in its efforts to better connect us, is also controlling our attention. And with the AI tech revolutions ahead, we just don’t know what the consequences of our manipulated attention are going to do to our well-being. Therefore, better get on top of it all now with a few key principles.

  • Create Scroll-Free Time & Space
  • Reclaim Screen Time for Social Connection
  • Free yourself from Notification Manipulation
  • Manage Devices for Minimal Stimulation
02

How it works?

  1. Know your screen time: use apps like Moment or ScreenHive to monitor and reduce.
  2. Keep your phone outside the bedroom (old school alarms rock) to protect the 30 mins before sleep and upon waking.
  3. Eliminate phones from otherwise pleasurable moments (meal time, love time, play time, exercise time > do these with full presence).
  4. Take a scroll free day or digital detox weekend to see how you manage without it.
  5. Disable all notifications on your phone apart from emergency numbers (family / colleagues) or delivery apps.
  6. Use Do Not Disturb to schedule when you use your phone during the day to bulk check and respond.
  7. Delete all social media apps and reserve intentional screen time with them on your computer or iPad.
  8. Opt-out of tracking, recommendations or AutoPlay (in your settings).
  9. Turn your phone to grayscale to minimize stimulation.
  10. When you are consuming information, be mindful of sources and share responsibly to avoid spreading misinformation.
